Curved Focals
This is a colaboration with Jeff of Inspiration Tool Works, LLC. Jeff had these wonderful mandrels and Dad and I designed a press that would accomodate it perfectly! The mandrels and the press are both available here!
I've had several customers ask how to lay glass on a curved mandrel. I took a very short, low quality video of my friend Ellen laying her initial foot print. You'll be able to see that keeping your glass rod steady and turning the mandrel, you will lay the glass very much like you do on a straight mandrel. I'm sorry the quality is poor, it was shot with the video function on a still photo camera. But I think you'll get the idea.
