Buttons
You can use our Cabochon Mandrels
to create fabulous buttons.
It's very simple to convert the cabochon to a button:
- Clean bead release from Cabochon back.
- Dry completely, I like to let it dry for several hours, or overnight.
- Using 2 part Epoxy glue the button shank over the hole left by the nub on the mandrel.
- Allow to dry for 24 hours and sew on your garment, bag, anything that needs a button.
Tip for making cabochons for Buttons:
- Be sure there are no
sharp edges. You want the glass to round our around the edges, so there
are not sharp spots that could wear against the fabric.
- You can use transparent
glass, but there will likely be a little hole where the nub is, and that
will show. This is not a problem when you use frit on the surface, or
you use an opaque glass.
- You can use other
adhesives, besides 2 part epoxy, but I find the epoxy the easiest to
use, and being water resistant, it's a good choice.
- You do not want to
machine wash your buttons. You should apply them to garments that you
can hand wash, or possibly dry clean. Even well annealed beads could
break in the washer, and dryer.
